Banner’s Story

In 1941, young Jim Banner dreamed of making furniture and cabinets. In those days in the blue ridge mountains, subsistence farming was the main source of livelihood. With help from his father, Jim and his young wife Mattie planted six acres of cabbage. Using the proceeds earned from selling the cabbage, Jim bought woodworking tools. Soon word got around of this gifted young craftsmen and he was busy building homes and cabinets all over the area. With Mattie’s help, Banner’s Cabinets was soon established and before long expanded with the addition of other local craftsmen. Jim and Mattie’s son Joe joined the family business when he graduated from North Carolina State University in 1967. Grandson Joseph came on board in 1995 when he graduated from North Carolina State.
